Ban Ki-moon, UN Secretary-General
I am pleased to extend warm greetings to all participants of international financial forums, the meeting was held in an important moment when the global financial crisis is worsening and putting serious threat on the global economy, especially for poorest and most vulnerable members in human society. Even before the recent round of financial turmoil, our efforts to reduce poverty had been challenged by rising food and energy prices and accelerating climate change. Achieving the Millennium Development goals is more challenging than ever before. We cannot let the global financial crisis worsen, and let our past achievements go to waste and let more people into poverty. We must protect the precarious livelihoods of the people.
