Jenny Shipley, member of IAC of IFF, former Prime Minister of New Zealand made a speech at the opening ceremony of IFF2011 Annual Conference, the script of her speech is extracted below:

I extend my warmest greetings to the participants of the International Financial Forum 2011 and I extend my sincere apologies for not being able to join you this year. This meeting is convened at an extremely important time where the world conversations, the conversations around China’s role in the world, have never been more critical.

The topics for the program this year are highly relevant, extremely interesting and, in my view, will be formative in terms of the way forward not only for big institutions here in China but for some of the leading thinkers who have great responsibility in different places around the world. We must find a way forward and confidence is part of that. Many, many many millions of people in many countries are relying on people like you and I thinking about what can work, what will work and who needs to take action to make these things work as we make our plans going forward.

The International Financial Forum in Beijing has already established a magnificent reputation of bringing the right people together at the right time to have the important conversations that will help shape the future. And it’s my hope this year that the participants at this conference will take this opportunity very seriously and enjoy the time with the important people who will be here formulating new strategies and sharing their experience, so that when we leave this conference, actions can be taken that will make a material difference. As a former political leader and now as a commercial leader, I want to encourage each of you to think about leadership in particular. Ideas matter, but leading with those ideas is the next most important thing.

I send you my congratulations and my warm wishes and I hope that the International Financial Forum in Beijing this year will be characterized by great conversation, excellent new ideas, and leadership actions that will follow as people go home from this conference to their different roles around the world where they then can make a material difference for the prosperity and well being of our people in the future.
