HISTORY

The International Finance Forum (IFF), founded in Beijing, China in October 2003, is committed to discussing key issues in the global financial and economic realms, addressing the world's major challenges, and promoting more inclusive and extensive cooperation and growth by engaging IFF members, stakeholders and global elites. IFF also strives to provide more membership services, including events, researches, consultation, media and publication, training, education, global projects, and initiatives.

In September 2003, in response to international demand and the financial situation, the proposal to establish the IFF received resounding support from UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan, former Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chrétien, former US President Bill Clinton, the Chinese government, United Nations agencies, relevant international economic organizations, and world-renowned and well-respected financial figures. In its later development, the IFF has received endorsements from more than 200 political and financial leaders, including UN Secretaries-General Ban Ki-moon and António Guterres, former Prime Minister of Great Britain and Northern Ireland Tony Blair, former New Zealand Prime Minister Jenny Shipley, former Prime Minister of the Republic of Korea Han Seungsoo, former Prime Minister of Pakistan Shaukat Aziz, President Emeritus of the European Council and former Prime Minister of Belgium Herman Van Rompuy, former President of the European Commission and former Prime Minister of Portugal José Manuel Durão Barroso, Managing Director of the IMF Christine Lagarde and Secretary-General of the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Supachai Panitchpakdi.
